Have you seen the ad where a priest uses Pepsi Max and Doritos over consecrated bread and wine for communion to increase his flock? The Body and Blood of Christ received at Holy Communion is honored as the Real Presence of Jesus Christ by over 1.2 Billion world citizens. That’s why many Christians find the Doritos ad so offensive. But I don’t know what I find more offensive: The degree of ignorance towards Holy Communion showcased in a silly Doritos commercial or that which is presently being demonstrated by the mainstream media. Hearing the Holy Eucharist described in news reports as “a bread wafer” or the Host characterized as a “a big portion of communion” — as if there’s a small portion counterpart — is equally irritating and inaccurate, and less tolerable and acceptable than what appears to me to be an innocent joke.
